Nuanaarpuq is an online journal featuring stories and photo essays of outdoor adventure, cultural exploration, and human narratives. The concept is straightforward:
to inspire wonder and incite the desire to wander.
Nuanaarpuq covers a wide array of subjects and canvases disparate corners of the globe to provide both a thorough (i.e. detailed travel itineraries) and a partial (i.e. anecdotes about life-altering hiking trails or serendipitous meetings with complete strangers) perspective on travel. Whether involving a plane ticket, a road trip, or a journey across town, exploration—the action of traveling for purpose of discovery—is celebrated on these pages.
TRAVELLER . PHOTOGRAPHER . STORYTELLER
Dottie Bond lives a life of art and exploration, combining her passion for photography and writing to tell stories of outdoor adventure, cultural immersion, and social impact. Dottie has collaborated with outdoor brands, travel companies, and nonprofits. She splits her time living in Washington, D.C. and Colorado with her dog, Romulus.
In 2016, Dottie created Nuanaarpuq as a forum for expression of those things in life that give her the greatest joy: travel, adventure, and storytelling. Her objective is simple—use words and visual imagery to educate and inspire an audience with the hope those readers will embark on journeys of their own making.
Nuanaarpuq, an Inuit word which means ‘take extravagant pleasure in the joy of living’, has shaped the course of Dottie’s life since she first heard the word as a teenager. Like Henry David Thoreau's
live deep and suck out all the marrow of life and Helen Keller's
life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all, nuanaarpuq has served as a clarion call to embrace this one precious pass at life. Live intentionally. Act with conscience. Enjoy your existence. Whether seeking a new adventure in an unfamiliar locale or sharing an unexpected moment with someone whose life is vastly different from your own, Dottie hopes to convey to her readers that every person has a story to share and every place is worth experiencing.
